Last month I had the privilege of meeting and interviewing Dr. Ben Carson and his wife Candy at a book signing event in Omaha, Nebraska. It was a ridiculously hot day but that didn't stop the many people from around Nebraska and neighboring Iowa to come by the Bookworm to meet Dr. Carson. The line of people wove throughout the store, spilled out the door and wrapped around the block. It was amazing to see so many Americans from various backgrounds, races, religions and political parties there. It looked like America! Who says we can't get along? ;) Here are some pictures of the great people who attended.
It took almost two hours for the line to move through to the last anxious person to meet with Ben and have their book sign. During that entire time, I had the absolute privilege of getting to know Ben's wife Candy. What started out as a request for short interview and a couple of questions, turned into a two hour conversation that looked and felt a lot like two sisters catching up on everything. And I mean everything. We talked about everything from politics to our favorite shops, our kids, and even exchanged recipes! I got some good ones!
I left the bookstore that day with a new friend and great hope. Things may be bad in America, but now more than ever I believe with all my heart that the women of America have the power to turn the whole thing around. Just look at the Ben Carson and tell me the influence of one mother doesn't make a difference! And as for my new friend Candy...I can tell you first hand, she would make a GREAT First Lady!
I'm a military wife, mom of 8 and an unabashed proud American loving Homemaker!
